The nearby Kaiserstuhl is a low mountain range of volcanic origin up to 556 m above sea level in the districts of Emmendingen and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald.
The climate of the Kaiserstuhl also explains the abundance of warmth-loving flora and fauna. For example, the Kaiserstuhl is one of the places with the greatest variety of orchids in Europe - more than 30 species have been registered. Wild grape hyacinths grow rampant between the vines and irises bloom on the embankments.
There is lively viticulture on the Kaiserstuhl, with the Kaiserstuhl wines now enjoying an excellent international reputation. Wine thrives particularly well because of the loess soil.
The "last jungle of southern Germany" on the southern upper Rhine plain. With a length of 12 km and a width of approx. 2.5 km, the best way to enjoy this spectacle is with a relaxing boat trip. The large nature reserve with its forests, meadows and flood dams serves as a habitat for numerous animal species, some of which are threatened with extinction.
